10 Tips for Introducing Your Toddler to our Waterpark Resort
Do you have a toddler who you would like to bring to our waterpark resort but are uncertain about how they will react? Believe it or not, a little prep can go a long way in making your toddler’s first visit to our resort safe, smooth, and full of happy family memories.
Here are 10 tips to help you introduce your toddler to our waterpark resort with confidence:
1. Visit During the Off-Season
Avoid the crowds and pick a time of year that is less busy. We recommend coming on a weekday in May or September. The rates are great and the resort is typically pretty quiet. Please note, if you do this be sure to check our waterpark hours before you book because not all of our waterparks may be open. Don’t worry though, there will certainly be enough for your toddler to do!
2. Visit our most Toddler-Friendly Waterpark first
We’ll be the first to admit that having eight waterparks (4 indoor and 4 outdoor) to choose from onsite can be a bit overwhelming for a first-time visitor. And, while all of our waterparks have zero-depth toddler areas, we recommend you start your waterpark journey at our Cubby’s Cove Indoor Waterpark at Wilderness on the Lake. It’s quieter, more contained and perfect for your little one. We’re pretty confident your toddler will love it!
3. Arrive Early (Like Right When We Open)
We know that toddlers tend to be at their best in the morning and that’s why we open Cubby’s Cove Indoor Waterpark at 9 am. If you come at opening time you will be treated to smaller crowds, a quieter setting and your toddler will be able to explore more comfortably.
4. Pack Smart
Our resort is huge, do plan accordingly! We recommend bringing a stroller so your little one can save their energy for fun times in our waterparks. Also don’t forget these essentials:
- Swim diapers – they are a must! We require them for toddlers who are not potty trained– bring many and don’t forget the wipes
- UV-protective swimsuit (and hat) if you are going to be in our outdoor waterparks
- Aqua shoes
- Coast Guard approved life jackets are required for all children under 48 inches in Cubby’s Cove indoor and outdoor waterparks. We also recommend them for all of our other waterparks as well. (Safety First!)
- Sunscreen for our outdoor waterparks and Wild WaterDome Indoor Waterpark with its FoilTec roof (Don’t forget to reapply it often!)
- A change of clothes for when you are done in the water and want to check out our dry attractions
- A favorite comfort item (just in case things get overwhelming
- Please note: You do not need to bring your own towels – we provide them! We also have snack bars in each waterpark where you can purchase food and beverages for your family. Sorry, we do not allow carry-ins into our waterparks.
5. Start Small and Let Them Observe
Ease your toddler into the waterpark experience. Let them watch from the edge or explore our zero-depth play areas at their own pace. Seeing other kids having fun can be a great motivator!
6. Be Their Guide and Lifeguard
Your toddler is always watching you, so make sure you’re relaxed and positively reinforcing them. Stay close to them at all times—even in shallow water—and encourage but don’t push them to try new things. Let them set the pace.
7. Watch for Sensory Overload
If your toddler becomes overwhelmed by the noise, crowds, or excitement, take a break. Head back to your room for some downtime, or consider renting a cabana for a quiet, shaded retreat right in the waterpark.
8. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Playing in the sun and water is thirsty work! Make sure the whole family drinks plenty of water—especially at our outdoor waterparks. Refuel with snacks and beverages available at our on-site snack bars.
9. Set Realistic Expectations
It’s perfectly normal if your toddler only lasts an hour or two in the water. Take pool side breaks or rest in your room, and then consider exploring a different waterpark or Timberland Playhouse, our dry play area, that has a gated area designed exclusively for toddlers.
10. Celebrate this Milestone Together
Did your toddler visit more than one of our waterparks? Did you get them to ride with you in the Klondike Kavern’s lazy river or maybe even try a tiny slide with you?
Celebrate it! These small moments are big accomplishments in your toddler’s world and help build excitement for your next visit.

Introducing your toddler to our resort doesn’t have to be stressful. With a little planning and patience, it can be the start of a cherished family tradition. Focus on fun, follow your child’s lead, and embrace the splashy chaos of it all—you’re making memories that will last a lifetime.
